I have lived in Chicago my entire life. It is a challenge to notice the countless beautiful details in a city that has provided me with recognizable views and commonly captured sights. I use the camera to jolt me from my slumber. I am shooting digitally, in color, while using a zoom lens to bring what is far, close. Photography allows me to alternatively visualize the architectural detailing surrounding me. I highlight the visual patterns of skyscrapers to document the intricate surface texture and transform my daily experience. I make all my photographs during the day to allow the light to bounce off the reflective surfaces and make the details visible. Making pictures allows me to alter perspective by using strategies of abstraction to challenge conventional ways of presenting architecture. Using abstraction allows one to focus on the skyscrapers surface and disregard what may fall beneath. I want to create a persistent feeling of distortion allowing the defamiliarization to be in conversation with the familiar skyscrapers.
